Design for the human body
The body is not made for sitting still but for movement and variation. We were intrigued that people had once been able to sit for long hours on horseback. We understood that this had something to do with upright posture and the active use of the body even though riders were essentially sitting. We realised that our feet play on important role when we sit for extended periods. For riders, the stirrups enabled the upper body to be more active when sitting - this was a key observation since active arms are essential in office work! We also drew inspira¬tion from kids, believing they much to teach us. Their "workday" is extremely varied, with constant movement and new postures. As they grow up, they are increasingly told to "sit stir”. We aren't designed to be still but to lead active lives.
Movement and variation
We are not designed to be still but for movement and variation. Movement is natural, necessary, nourishing and comfortable. Life is movement. With our way of life having changed so dramatically, movement while sitting has become crucial to staying healthy and working efficiently. When we sit at work,. concen¬trating on a taskr we may move our hands, arms and head but we often simply "Forget" about our legs. They remain "parked' and static. This affects the whole body. Ever noticed how tired you get after sitting for long periods HÅG chairs inspire you to move your feet.
Always perfectly in balance
Balance is !he best starting point for movement. To achieve dynamic sitting you need a Balanced Movement Mechanism' and user-friendly controls io personalise the settings of your chair. Our extensive environ¬mental efforts, the low weight of our chairs, the limited number of components, environmentally efficient materials and extended useful life means that the carbon footprint of our chairs is barely perceptible. HÅG uses recycled materials as much as possible. We use recycled steel, plastic and aluminium. This generates considerable environmental gains. For example, we use about 90 percent less energy in producing foot bases from recycled alumi¬num than if we had used virgin aluminium.
